چکیده
One of the goals Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) mission is to constrain interior structure Mars. We present a hierarchical transdimensional Bayesian approach extract phase velocity dispersion shear-wave (VS) models from single seismogram. This method was adapted Mars technique recently developed for Earth (Xu & Beghein, 2019, https://doi.org/10.1093/gji/ggz133). Monte Carlo Markov Chains seek an ensemble one dimensional (1-D) VS between source receiver that can explain observed waveform. The obtained are used calculate velocities fundamental higher modes at selected periods, subsequent analysis performed assess which were reliably measured. An advantage our it also fit unknown data noise, reduces risk overfitting data. In addition, uncertainties in parameters be propagated, yielding more accurate model parameter uncertainties. this study, we first discuss challenges stemming station characterize both absence reference model. then demonstrate feasibility Structure Service blind test own synthetic data, included realistic noise levels based on recorded by InSight.

Fundamental and higher-mode Rayleigh wave characteristics of ambient seismic noise in New Zealand
[1] In order to use ambient seismic noise for mapping Earth’s structure, it is important to understand the spatiotemporal characteristics of the noise field. This study uses data collected during four austral winter months of 2002 to investigate New Zealand’s ambient seismic noise field in the double-ocean-wave-frequency range (0.1–0.3 Hz). It is shown via beamforming analysis that there are tw...
متن کاملSurface Wave Dispersion Measurements and Tomography from Ambient Seismic Noise Correlation in China
We perform ambient noise tomography of China using the data from the China National Seismic Network and surrounding global and PASSCAL stations. The results so far are summarized below. (1) Dispersion measurements and tomography. For most of the station pairs, we retrieve good Rayleigh waveforms from ambient noise correlations using 18-months of continuous data at all distance ranges across the...
متن کاملDevelopment of Surface Wave Dispersion and Attenuation Maps and Improved Methods for Measuring Surface Waves
The objective of this project is to optimize the measurement of surface waves, particularly at regional and local distances and at periods of 8–15 seconds. One goal of this project is the development of global regionalized dispersion and attenuation maps, with a particular focus on determining attenuation maps for Eurasia in the 8–15 second period band. Both the dispersion and attenuation maps ...
متن کاملOn measuring surface-wave phase velocity from station-station
7 We apply two different algorithms to measure surface-wave phase velocity, as a function of 8 frequency, from seismic ambient noise recorded at pairs of stations from a large European 9 network. The two methods are based on consistent theoretical formulations, but differ in the 10 implementation: one method involves the time-domain cross-correlation of signal recorded 11 at different stations;...
متن کاملLaser-ultrasonic surface wave dispersion measurements on surface-treated metals.
Surface acoustic wave (SAW) velocity spectroscopy has been long considered to be one of the leading candidates for nondestructive characterization of surface-treated metals because of its ability to probe the material properties at different penetration depths depending on the inspection frequency. We developed a high-precision laser-ultrasonic technique to study the feasibility of SAW dispersi...
